Is Your Pillow Due for a Wash — or the Trash?

Answer four quick questions and find out whether your pillow needs a wash, a deep clean, or a replacement.

1. How old is your pillow?
2. When did you last wash the pillow itself (not just the case)?
3. Notice any of these? (pick the closest)
4. Can your pillow handle a hot wash (130°F / 54°C)?
  • Wash the whole core

Not just the cover - the part that gets dirty.

  • Hot wash to 176°F

Sanitizes the core: dust mites and bacteria gone.

  • Dries in hours

Wash in the morning, sleep on it tonight.

  • Holds its shape

Still like new after 50+ wash cycles.

See It In Action

Water runs straight through.

That's the whole secret. The Pillowash core lets water flow right through it - so it rinses clean all the way through, and dries by bedtime. Most pillows can't do this.

  • Rinses clean all the way throughSweat, oils, and bacteria wash out of the core - not just off the surface.
  • Dries in hours, not daysWater drains right out, so it's ready by bedtime. Wash in the morning, sleep on it tonight.
  • Nothing trapped insideNo soggy core, no mildew, no years of buildup sealed in where you can't reach.

The Problem

Your pillow is the dirtiest thing in your bedroom.

You wash your sheets and your pillowcase. But the thing you press your face into for eight hours a night? You've never actually cleaned it - because until now, you couldn't.

Sweat, oils, and dead skin soak past the cover and build up deep inside. The industry's answer has always been "just replace it every year or two" - which is an admission that a pillow can't be cleaned.

  • 84% of U.S. beds carry detectable dust-mite allergen.National survey, J. Allergy & Clinical Immunology, 2003
  • 1.5g of dead skin you shed a day — enough to feed a million dust mites.American Lung Association
  • 2 years how often allergy experts say to replace a pillow you can't wash.Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America
  • 4–16 fungal species found in used pillows in one small study.Woodcock et al., Allergy, 2006 (10-pillow study)

A Better Idea

What if you could just... wash it?

The Pillowash Crisp washable pillow being loaded into a front-load washing machine

There's clean, and then there's actually clean. Pillowash is the first pillow with a core you machine-wash in hot water - so the inside gets as fresh as the cover, night after night.

Hot water at 130°F (54.4°C)+ is proven to kill dust mites on contact.

How It Works

Three layers. One job:clean sleep you can trust.

Every layer solves a specific problem - and every layer is built to be washed.

Pillowash Crisp washable pillow exploded view - five layers of the washable core system
1 The Outer Cover Soft & easy to wash

The cover you feel against your cheek. Zip it off and wash it cool, just like a favorite T-shirt.

Wash cool - up to 122°F (50°C)

2 The Inner Liner Quick-dry protection

Our Breath-Real™ airflow liner channels water out fast, so the pillow dries in hours instead of days - no trapped damp, no mildew.

Hot wash - up to 176°F (80°C)

3 The Washable Core Where the real clean happens

The Clean-Deep™ core is food-grade and built to be washed: rinse it right under the tap or run it through the machine in hot water, and it keeps its shape wash after wash.

Hot wash - up to 176°F (80°C)

How to wash your Pillowash

It's as easy as doing laundry - because it is doing laundry.

1 Remove the outer cover

Unzip it and wash it on its own, cool - up to 122°F (50°C).

2 Wash the core + inner liner

Machine wash together. 140°F (60°C) for a refresh, up to 176°F (80°C) for a deep clean. Mild detergent, gentle cycle.

3 Dry & sleep

Low tumble dry or air dry - it's ready in hours. Wash in the morning, sleep on it that night.

Pro tip Washing two at once helps balance your machine. If you have a pair, wash them together.

Why It's Better

Cleaner, cooler, safer sleep

  • For allergy & asthma sufferersHot water washes out the dust mites behind morning congestion and sneezing - just as the Mayo Clinic recommends.
  • For clearer skinA clean sleeping surface, so your skincare routine isn't fighting last week's buildup all night.
  • For parents & kidsToss the whole pillow in the wash - one less thing in the house you can never quite get clean.

Cool all night, no flipping

Most pillows trap heat - memory foam is the worst offender. Pillowash keeps air moving through the core all night, so there's no hunt for the cold side at 3 AM.

  • Cool-touch cover + airflowA cool-to-the-touch cover and open Breath-Real™ channels move heat away where your head rests.
  • Safe from the first nightMade from food-grade silicone - the kind trusted for baby products. Any new-product scent rinses out in the first wash.

Built to Last

Still like new after 50 washes

Most Americans replace their pillow every year or two - not because they want to, but because it falls apart. Down goes flat. Memory foam crumbles. Fiber fill clumps. Pillowash is built to be washed, again and again, and hold its shape.

Everything you're wondering

Can you really wash the whole pillow — not just the cover?

Yes. The Pillowash Crisp Pillow is built to be washed whole — cover and core. Slip the core inside its inner cover, machine-wash them together, and wash the outer cover on its own. It comes out the same shape it went in.

What is the pillow made of?

The Pillowash Crisp Pillow has three layers. The outer pillowcase is a smooth, cool-to-the-touch fabric — double-layered, with a cotton inner side. The inner cover is a moisture-wicking, quick-dry, baby-safe fabric. The core is food-grade silicone and reticulated foam, with no harmful substances.

What water temperature can I use?

Wash the core inside its inner cover at up to 140°F (60°C) for routine care or up to 176°F (80°C) for deep sanitizing (while the Clean-Deep™ fiber structure tolerates up to 212°F / 100°C thermal stress without melting, never wash at boiling 212°F / 100°C). Wash the outer pillowcase separately in cold or room-temperature water up to 122°F (50°C).

Does it help with dust mites and allergies?

Washing is one of the best defenses against dust-mite buildup — and the Pillowash Crisp Pillow is built to be washed whole. A U.S. national survey found dust-mite allergen in 84% of American beds (Arbes et al., Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology), and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America recommends hot-water washing to keep mites in check. Most pillows can't take that. The Pillowash core and inner cover handle a deep clean at up to 176°F (80°C), so you can wash the whole pillow, not just the case.

Will it get lumpy or clump after washing?

No — there's nothing inside to clump. Pillows turn lumpy after washing when loose fill (shredded foam, down, polyester stuffing) shifts and balls up in the drum. The Pillowash Crisp Pillow's core is one molded piece of food-grade silicone with open airflow channels, so it goes into the wash and comes out the exact shape it went in.

How do I dry it — can it go in the dryer?

Yes, the dryer is fine on low heat. Or skip it: thanks to Breath-Real™ open channels, water runs straight through the Pillowash core instead of soaking in, so it air-dries far faster than a regular washed pillow — typically overnight in a well-ventilated spot. Once the wash is done, you can slip the core out of its inner cover to speed up air-drying, and dry the outer pillowcase on low, under 122°F (50°C).

What size is it, and who is it good for?

The Pillowash Crisp Pillow is a standard 24" × 16" × 4.8" and weighs about 2 kg (4.4 lbs), so it fits standard pillowcases. Its medium 4.8-inch profile suits most back and side sleepers. Stomach sleepers who like a low, flat pillow may find it on the taller side — which is exactly what the 30-night trial is for.

What's the return policy — is there a trial?

Every Pillowash Crisp Pillow comes with a 30-night money-back guarantee, and the 30 nights start the day it's delivered. You're welcome to sleep on it and machine-wash it (following the care instructions) during your trial — we suggest giving it at least 15 nights for your body to adjust before you decide. To return it, the pillow needs to come back complete (all three layers: outer pillowcase, inner cover, and core), clean, and completely dry, with its sewn-in tags, care labels, and original packaging intact, plus your order number as proof of purchase. See our Refund Policy for full return details.

Forgot it was different

Washed it the night before, dry by dinner, goes right back in the case. Washed it four times now, same result every time.

Four washes in, zero clumping, dry by dinner. That's the whole pitch.

Survives the spills

My daughter spills things so this gets washed more than mine. Middle still feels the same after each wash, dries in a couple hours.

Kids' spills are the real stress test. Leaving the inner sleeve on the core in the drum is what keeps that middle feeling identical after every wash.

Firm at first, settled in

Ran firmer than I expected the first week and my shoulder ached. It settled and my neck's been fine since. Washed twice, easy, dry by next day.

That first-week adjustment is real, especially coming off a softer pillow. Once the outer cover goes through its first wash and your neck gets used to the firmer support, it clicks right into place, Jennifer.

Passed the wash test

Wasn't sure a washable pillow would last. Three washes, two months, and the middle is still firm, no smell, no flat patch. Getting one for the guest room.

Washable really is the thing

Felt a little weird washing my pillow the first time. It came out clean with its shape intact. Now it's just part of my routine.

Everybody feels a little weird putting a whole pillow into the washing machine the first time. Love the terracotta sheets in your photo, Fay.
